Chapter 6

“I need their wounds cleaned,” Riley barked out back in the small examination room attached to his lab. We’d landed and brought Caven and Jalen right down to him.

“If you can get them awake and strong enough to shift, their wolves will take care of the rest,” Ayden said from my arms as everyone raced around to help. “The shackles were silver, right?”

“Yeah, they were burning their wrists,” Gabriel answered, his voice full of emotion as he stood, leaning against the far wall, and watched helplessly while Riley worked on his mate.

“Heal that part of them and make sure the silver is gone, doc,” Ayden said carefully.

“I appreciate any advice or insight, Ayden. Don’t be afraid to tell me these things,” Riley replied with a smile, his words setting my mate’s mind at ease. I could understand Ayden’s position. He wasn’t trying to be one of those know-it-all jerks who tried to tell the doctor how to do their jobs. But Riley admitted he didn’t know much about shifters, and obviously, Ayden did.

“You did the right thing by telling him,” I told Ayden, agreeing with Riley. My mate relaxed back against me, and I tightened my arms around his chest. We were standing off to the side, allowing Riley and Cyrus the space they needed to treat Ayden’s brothers, but there was no way Ayden wouldn’t want to be there right then. And where he was, I was.

“Riley, move,” Ayden shouted and leapt from my arms, pushing the doc out of the way. He got there just in time to block Riley from harm’s way. Harm being in the form of Caven’s wicked sharp teeth snapping in fear. “It’s okay, Caven. He’s a doctor. His gift is healing, and he’s going to help you so you can shift.” Ayden’s voice was soothing as he addressed his brother and brushed some hair out of Caven’s face.

“Sorry,” Caven said sheepishly, his teeth going back to normal. “I smelled strangers and felt pain.”

“Wolf survival instincts,” Riley replied with a wink. “Nothing to apologize for.”

“Yes, he should,” Micah growled and pointed a finger at Caven.

“You bite my mate and, Ayden’s brother or not, I will kick your ass all over the place.”

“No you won’t,” Gabriel snarled. “You touch my mate and—”

“You’ll kick his ass, we get it,” Ayden said, rolling his eyes.

“Nothing happened, okay? We’ve got bigger fish to fry here, so chill the fuck out.”

They both stared at my little mate, blinking in shock.

“What happened to the sweet, passive wolf?” Micah asked, trying not to laugh.

“Wolves are fiercely protective, so passive or not normally, when your argument is impeding the healing of my brothers, I’m going to jump in.” Ayden put his hands on his hips, and fixed Micah and then Gabriel with his gaze, giving attitude as if daring anyone to go against him.

“Fair enough,” Gabriel and Micah said together, holding their hands out in surrender and taking a step back.

“Doc, it’s all you,” my mate announced as he sauntered over to me and snuggled himself back into my arms.
